Retirement
We got a Christmas letter the other day from some friends of ours, the husband of whom is retired. He’s having a blast with his “second career,” and can’t believe how busy he is. Which got me to thinking about the whole concept of retirement as it pertains to Jaz and me. We’re on our last story, at least for some time. After this, we’ll both be moving on. I have a good idea what she intends to do. As for myself, I can’t imagine waking up one day and saying, “Yup, that’s it. No more writing for me.” So I’ll probably keep after it until I just can’t mentally hack it anymore. (Geez, by the time I’m all gnarly and toothless, what do you suppose I’ll be using for a word processor–laser mind reading technogy?)
Anyway, how about you guys? How would you like to spend your golden years? Here’s a thought…
P.S. In case you were wondering? The voters have spoken, and the shout went to c. Just before Paul and Brady make it to the door they fall through Voodoo Vicky’s “welcome mat.” Look for part three of The Minion Chronicles on Monday!

I think it would be nice to save up a bit of money, retire and then go travelling to loads of random little places all over the world. I think it would be good because you could just go off without planning exactly where you are going or how long you will be gone. Just head off in whatever direction takes your fancy. Fun

I intend to spend my golden years being as crazy as possible! Really looking forward to being able to say what you want and no one can say anything about it! Im gonna be the craziest old lady for miles around, fun!
Travelling would also be fantastic, though i’d hope by then i’ll have managed to see lots of places!

I’m kinda bad with saving money ( see bookshelves and DVD for vacation an retirement money usage) so I’ll probably have to still work
So are jaz’s stories going to end for print for now or possibly continue to another arch depending on contracts of course?

I see myself continuing to volunteer as I retire. I have so many role models of friends in their 70s and 80s (like having my own army of grandparents to be honest) that continue to volunteer and make a difference in their retirement years. I want to be just like them.

Jaz’s story is ending??? OMG! I really thought (prayed) that she and Vayl and the rest of the crew (and perhaps new members) would go on indefinitely. I love these characters! I love the stories! Please keep writing and publishing them!

I can understand wanting to retire the characters, but I do really enjoy their stories and your writing. I only discovered your books recently, and it would be a shame to say goodbye to them so soon!

Emily! Travel…yummmm.
I gotta figure out at what age that starts, Sophie. So far, all I know is that 44 is not it!
For Tori, Eileen, and Jen X, please don’t look at book eight as an end. I’m not tying up every thread in the story specifically so I can come back to it if I’m ever asked to. (Because I love these guys as much as you!) In fact, if Jazfans turn books seven and eight into bestsellers, I believe there’s a good chance you’ll see new adventures from Jaz and Vayl after my next series has hit the shelves. So tell all your friends about the books! Word-of-mouth is a powerful tool!
Too cool, Becky. Volunteers are fabulous people!

As long as you plan to keep writing (& sharing) I’m good!
I mean there’s not many authors that make me laugh so much my hubby asks if I need to relearn how to breathe!
As a note I sent a friend bk 1 in mass market as a late bday present in Dec — he’s currently owner of all but bk 6. he called me an enabler though . I told him to pass it on .

It all depends on whether you want to slowly descend into crazy or just turn it on one day at breakfast or something! Either way, it should keep life nice and interesting!

I already have plans for when I go grey: dye my hair crazy colours or wear crazily coloured wigs all the time.
But for retirement… not so much. Aside from being a fandom GRANDmother, I have no idea what I want to do. Which is just as well, as I do have fourty odd years in front of me before that happens to decide. I’ll probably just read more.

Absolutely, Tori! (And, naturally, you rock! Thanks for spreading the Jaz news!)
Something to consider, Sophie!
I haven’t tried wigs yet, Chloe, but I think it would be particularly hilarious if I showed up at WalMart with the Lady Godiva version. Have you seen that one? Blond down to your kneecaps? Too funny-especially if it was on, say, a sixty-year-old.

When I retire I want to travel around Australia and be a ‘Grey Nomad’. After I’ve finished travelling around the world that is.
I don’t know what I’ll do without Jaz and Vayl. Maybe I can buy a shipload of each book……that should guarantee bestsellers….lol.

When i retire, I think i’ll have so much time i’ll just start drawing and painting 24/7. Or be the crazy cat lady
But then, i dont really know exactly. I mean, im not even out of highschool yet.

Golden years… Hmmm… *thinks*
I dunno! Honestly I think I’ll be like Grandma Mazur in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. She’s awesome and can never get die. LOL!

Love the idea of travelling, but it’s become so expensive that I don’t know if it would be possible on a retirement budget.
Do know that I’ll finally have time to catch up on all of my reading! Maybe one day I’ll actually have my TBR piles down to a manageable level!
Would love to work part-time in either a book store or a library in order to be surrounded by all of those lovely, lovely books.
