Look Up!
Here’s a fun game that’ll tell me, and all the rest of the crew, a little bit about your cool personality. Look up. What’s on the wall above your monitor? If you have a laptop, what’s on the wall where you’re looking this very moment? I’ll start…
My hubby is huge into trains. (Which will tell you, I guess, where Raoul gets his model railroading habit!) So on the wall above the PC I’m currently using are two reproduction wooden signs that used to hang in train stations. Here’s what they say:
NO PREACHING
and NO PEDDLING
ALLOWED IN THE
WAITING ROOM
and
ALL HOBOS ARE
ASKED TO DO A
GOOD DUST-OFF
BEFORE ENTERING
THE WAITING ROOM.
Your turn!
P.S. I know you’re gasping in anticipation, so I won’t make you wait any longer–the vote was incredibly close this time. By a single vote, the plot of The Minion Chronicles will twist in this direction on Monday: b. Vicky misunderstands Paul, assumes he needs a demonstration, and puts Waldo the zombie pit bull through his paces. Thanks so much for voting. I’m having the best time! Hope you are too!

Right now above my laptop screen there a big furry dog napping on the sofa. If I look above the pup there is a painting of an old small town motel with all sorts of neon signs and traffic going past by Kim Reasor.
In my craft room if I look above my desktop monitor I see a studio portrait of my Gramma Alice from the 60′s.

The wall im looking at is quite sparse actually, theres a vogue calendar and thats about it! There will however be two hammer horror vampire posters up there shortly! Birthday presents from friends, aparently it’s the gift of choice for someone like me! Im not too sure what that says!

Orange (or rather, “Spiced Pumpkin” according to the paint company) walls. Bare. Hmmm… probably should get some artwork…
January 21st, 2010 at 12:10 pm
I’ve got two stained glass hanging suncatchers. One’s a peacock and the other has birds of paradise. My computer is in front of two windows. They cover most of the windows but let in all kinds of color tinged light.
January 21st, 2010 at 12:14 pm
A shelf full of containers (mostly tin cans) with: pens, pencils, screwdrivers, coloured pencils, jewelry pliers and crochet hooks. Yes, I’m in my craft room! Also two photos of my Dad with each of my sons taken (gasp – I just realised) 25 years ago!!
January 21st, 2010 at 12:30 pm
I’m at school in my classroom (planning), so I’m looking at the whiteboard with tomorrow’s agenda.
January 21st, 2010 at 12:50 pm
Really depressing, right, but all over the horrible white walls that remind me more of an insane asylum than anything else, I’ve plastered neon post-its to remind me of things I should already know. Like when my next assignment’s due, email passwords, or dates of when I sent out a poem to a magazine. How embarrassing… :>
January 21st, 2010 at 1:20 pm
30+ badminton plaques and medals from various tournaments played. Oh yeah. If I look closely, most likely there’s lots of cob webs that adorn them (so I don’t look closely)!
January 21st, 2010 at 2:28 pm
Directly on the wall in front of me is the picture that came with my confirmation certificate. It´s some kind of dune/rock formation, with black and orange colors. Left of that are two clwons sitting on a swing, on the right are my diving diploms.
Since I´m typing this on my laptop, which sits on my desk directly in front of the monitor of my pc, that´s what I always see when I look up…
January 21st, 2010 at 3:24 pm
Above my computer is a Meadow Brook Hall Concours d’Elegance poster all nice and framed. If you don’t know what it is its like the big daddy of vintage cars. Google has some beautiful pictures.
January 21st, 2010 at 3:35 pm
I looked up from my laptop to find my 10 year old telling me that my 8 year old and 4 year old sons are playing with plastic cups. I don’t really care about the plastic cups. I do care that the 8 year old is NOT doing his homework! I think I need to close my door. Then I’d be looking at the shoes hanging on the back of it. And maybe for a few minutes it would be a bit quieter in here…

Sadly nothing is about my monitor but the wall that is under our stairs going to the main part of the house.
Though I guess the only thing I could put there would some picture’s that my girls (5 & 3) have drawn for me. ( I should do that tomorrow)
January 21st, 2010 at 4:48 pm
On my wall oddly, is a life size cardboard cutout of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, the 2009 Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince calendar I haven’t changed yet, a coo coo clock I inherited from my grandparent’s house, two of the three Original Star Wars Trilogy Movie posters in the style when the movies first came out, and the top half of a life size cardboard cut out of Darth Vader.
Yeah, now psychoanalyze that one if you dare.
January 21st, 2010 at 5:01 pm
Behind my mac near the ceiling is a parental advisory poster I painted, underneath that in a row are three large drawings I did from the Japanese manga series Bleach by Tite Kubo, and a calender. It’s one of my more tame walls, the others are packet with posters and bookshelves. However lots of post it’s are currently decorating my monitor!
January 21st, 2010 at 6:14 pm
I am currently looking at my tv and tv cabinet. Around it covering the wall is an assortment of Twilight, Harry Potter, and band posters. Some of my own artwork is also mixed in. My family and I live in an older house that was easier to put panneling in instead of sheetrock when it was being remodeled. In saying that I HATE PANNELING! Several years ago I decided to buy posters and cover it up, so that has how it’s been since then and will stay that way until I move out. As I get bored of something I just buy new poster or draw something new to put up.
January 21st, 2010 at 11:40 pm
On the lovely bright orange wall above me there is a big photo frame full of my dance photos from the past 5 years. There’s a big one in the middle of when I was Mumble in a tap dance to Boogie Wonderland from Happy Feet. Lamest dances but fun nonetheless.
January 22nd, 2010 at 2:10 am
A M. C. Escher calender and a Phoenix hyundai A league football poster, oh and the one shot for glory crowd shot (FIFA qualifer), the football is hubby and calender was my choice as I love Eschers art.
The kids art is on the wall behind me though

i just got my room re-decorated, so mi walls lookin a bit bare. Theres a new mirror (which i completely love) leaning against the wall, waiting for my dad to put it up properly, and mi new Bunny Suicide calander is propped up by a couple of pairs of socks
January 22nd, 2010 at 6:33 am
I’ll tell what’s on the side wall at hone cause the rest is WAY too boring. I was trying to decide on paint color so I bought a sample and painted a rectangle about one ft by 1/2 ft. I liked it. SOSs not to waste the paint on the brush I paintedsround the next section and painted a smile and 2 dots for eyes. Hubby said ” I guess you like this one?”
January 22nd, 2010 at 8:16 am
If I look up from my laptop I see the TV and the TV cabinet. We only moved into this house a few weeks ago so the walls are still pretty much bare.
January 22nd, 2010 at 9:33 am
Sounds like a feast for the eyes, Kaia!
It says you’re supah cool, Sophie!
Excellent shade, Teri! I’d go for that myself if hubby would agree. He’s more into green.
How gorgeous is that, Nicole? You must be perennially inspired!
Craft rooms are da bomb, Jill! (Our photo of gramps with the babes is on the living room wall. Look at it every day–it’s 16 years old!)
Ahhh, the magical whiteboard. Did you realize, Amber, you’ll never be able to make your kids shiver by screeching your fingernails down an old fashioned blackboard. Kinda sad, really.
Well, Becky, at least you’ve gone with neon!
Badminton! Awesome! I’m so terrible, but I have such fun when we play, Laney4. And every time I miss I look at the racket like, WTF?
That, Tanja, is a fascinating combination!
Ah, Caitlin, vintage cars. Yum.
LOL, Sara. There is something to be said for talking scenery though!
Aw, Mandy, now I have that same sympathy-for-Harry-Potter feeling for you. Definitely you should put those pictures up!
Not touching that one with a Freud textbook, Jenna. Just enjoying it from afar!
I like it, Megan! Originality everywhere!
Excellent plan, Miranda. I agree, paneling sucks. (We have it throughout our house too. Even though I’ve painted it, you still get the pattern. Sigh.) Today I’m at the other PC, so I’m looking at the first four Jaz Parks covers and a framed poster of “Biting the Bullet” that they did for a publicity campaign in Australia. Much better than painted paneling!
Love it, Bec!
Family walls are so cool, Penny. The best, I think. Just to my right is a framed picture that my daughter drew. A treasure.
A Bunny Suicide calendar? I’ve never heard of this, but I am utterly fascinated, Eimear. You rock, as usual.
LMAO, Tori!!!
Congrats on the new home, Jo-Anne! It’s exciting to imagine what lovelies you will adorn the walls with, yes?
January 22nd, 2010 at 9:34 am
Looking up from my monitor I see mementos from our travels around Asia. There are Jade ornaments with bright red tassels hanging that we in Hong Kong and framed pictures of my son with elephants from an elephant rescue park in Northern Thailand where we volunteered for a couple of days. There is also a 2010 calendar with European Renaissance art pictures and and my current work schedule & special events I am in charge of scribbled all over it.

“Healthy Air Starts with me”
I’m in the office so I have a calendar made from designs from kids about Healthy living and good Air Quality!
I also have a sticker that says “Marathon Freak” that my boss gave me along side a congrats card from my coworkers for finishing my first marathon (on my bday…might I add
) other than that its all business stuff… Boring!
January 22nd, 2010 at 11:08 am
When I look up I look out of my office (glass walls) and into the main university library. I can see the circulation desk, a room with computer terminals (each with a student, and each student is busy researching, I’m quite sure! Oh, wait, is that solitaire I see? And Facebook? Huh!), the stairs going up to the stacks, and the bank of elevators.
January 22nd, 2010 at 2:52 pm
I’m on my mum’s laptop right now, so if I look up from her desk I see her bookshelves and the pale green wall. If I were on my laptop looking in fron of me I’d see a blue armchair full of my stuff (bags, books and papers, a pillow with a cross-stitch embroidery I made, scarf and gloves…) and a concrete column painted red (the rest of my walls are a very light yellow).
January 22nd, 2010 at 4:14 pm

its soooooo funi haha
January 23rd, 2010 at 12:05 am
Above my laptop there is… a toy boat, Newton’s cradle, a juggling ball and a horse pulling a drink mixing kit. Swizzle sticks and shot glass included
January 23rd, 2010 at 2:15 am
I have my Canon printer I used to print only photos off of, and behind it is a window so I can see the birds flying around the trees(I mean everything from robins to Canadian geese) & also the sunsets.
January 23rd, 2010 at 4:29 am
I am looking at the rain pouring down in the backyard.
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Staring down at me is an old, fading, curling-up-at-the-edges-and-mildew-stained (oh, and unframed!) charcoal sketch of Winston Churchill by “Sampson”… inherited from a 103 year old fellow my sister was looking after. He’s frowning, as if to say, “get a move on!”
January 23rd, 2010 at 7:12 pm
I’ll bet your eyes dance every time they hit the wall, Becky!
Woot, Sweetsummer! Way to go you healthy runner you!
What? Zita? You can see into the library and yet not a single book in sight? You are definitely living in the 21st century!
Comforting to know I’m not the only chair-piler, Vale. Yesterday was the first time in two months that I was able to write sitting in my office chair. Before that it was full of a vast array of items, from clothes that needed to be ironed to Christmas cards!
Anybody with toys is tops in my book, Kelly!
Glad you’ve got such a great view, Lola!
I feel like I should cheer you up, Donna. Um, perhaps if you set some rubber duckies out there to play in the rain?
LOL, Bryan! I imagine he keeps you in line then!
January 23rd, 2010 at 10:11 pm
Im in the living room so at the moment i can see the cricket playinhg on the TV, my brother absorbed in the battle for middle earth, the kitchen that smells great! and the sented candells that melted on a hot day and are now sort of like colourfull blobs with string hanging out the sides.
January 24th, 2010 at 10:20 am
Well, above my laptop screen, there is the tv, a shelf of dvds, and a painting I did! I can see some of my yarn, some for current projects, some that needs to be put in my stash yet. And one of my birds on his playgym.
January 24th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Well, mu computer desk actually goes up because I’ve got shelves on top, which contain My Little Ponies, Hot Wheels, a clock, my printer, and various other bric-a-brac. And above the shelves on the wall I have my Disney Villains poster.
January 24th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
A map from the 1700s of St. Eustatius in the Carribbean. The island was a dutch slave trading post and I worked on a dig there a few years ago.
January 25th, 2010 at 4:26 am
A copy of Mulders’(X-Files) “I want to Believe” poster
January 25th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
A window… very boring, except when a fight breaks out in the parking lot. But in my old dorm room, I had a gorgeous cherry blossom poster, a Vampire Knight graphic novel poster, a gothic artwork calendar, and… food.
January 25th, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Fascinating, Jade! I hope your brother saved the world!
LOL, Andie. I suddenly got this picture of Foghorn Leghorn, arguably the most buff bird on the planet (http://wineindustryinsight.com/wp-content/uploads/foghorn_leghorn.png). Do you think your bird aspires to muscles like his?
Awesome, Becky? Do you have a favorite villain, or do they all make you sigh happily in equal doses?
Oh, that’s just too freaking cool, Bianca! Did you guys discover some neat artifacts while you were there?
Love it, Emily-Kate!!
LOL, Christin! Do you pray for conflict so that it’ll distract you from necessary homework?
January 27th, 2010 at 11:56 am
Behind my screen is a pirate skeleton with a monkey on his back!
January 29th, 2010 at 12:13 am
Above my computer is a poster from the Canadian Museum of Civilization Exhibit of the Pompeii artifacts.
