Let’s Fight Crime!

I’m big into superheroes.  Not so much Superman because he’s a little too perfect.  Or maybe it’s just the hair.  But the other dudes pretty much strike my awe.  I even think Aquaman’s pretty cool!  (While I read comics about everyone else, I had a book of his adventures.  In fact, every once in a while I still have a breathing underwater dream that turns out to be absolutely marvelous!)

So I’m thinking we should form ourselves a superhero den.  Everybody pick their own alter-ego and describe your super powers in as much detail as you can manage.  You may have a sidekick, a cool vehicle, gadgets, even a motto that you’d like to share with us.  (You Americans may recognize elements of Stan Lee’s reality show here, but I promise we’re not trying to jump his vibe.  Saving the world should be a sharing thing and we’re into originality on this site.)

So, if I could be a superhero, I’d be Gardening Girl.  My weapons would be a belt full of trowels sharpened to a deadly point, which I’d be able to throw accurately from a distance of at least three feet.  I’d ride to emergency sites on my souped-up lawnmower, which can travel at speeds of up to two hundred miles per hour–while trimming!  My sidekick would be Nels the Nurseryman, short on brains, long on shovels.  He tends to bang people over the head first and ask questions later, but he is helpful when trying to dig up evidence (snort!).

I could go on, but now it’s your turn.  Come on, superheroes, we have nasty villains to catch and Nels and I can’t do it alone.  Who will join us next?

There’s an anime series called Read or Die. Three of the main characters are “paper benders”. Basically they can each make paper do something (like, say, become a weapon or a giant paper bird to fly in). If I were to have a super power…yep, that’d be mine. So long as there was a napkin on the street, I’d have a weapon.

As for a sidekick…erm…His name would be Slate…cryptologist and linguist specialising in dead (and endangered) languages because he feels modern languages aren’t poetic enough.

A total grammar nazi he’s been shot at several times by friend and foe alike for harping on the way they speak or write. Friends miss him intentionally, foes tend to want to kill him in order to shut him up. Nothing more annoying than having your grammar corrected in the middle of your triumphant “I SHALL RULE THE WORLD” speech.

LOVE it! (LMAO at Slate–plus I think I know him!)

    ok ok ok…deep breath…if i was a super hero i would be…
La Bella, she’s a sassy sexy fighting machine. was kiddnapped by russians when she was 9 and was found 12 years later by and italian CIA type corporation, there files say she is stronger then rock, more flexible then bamboo and can turn her self invisable for short periods at a time. she is a black bealt in tea kwondo, and karate. She works with the corporation to fight injustice and find revenge on those that made her the way she is today, working with the corporation gives her all the latest gadgets which she likes (although wont admit to) and means she drives a 2009 audi sq (out of the movie i-robot). She mainly works alone but every now and then corporation thinks its funny to pair her with someone else…just to see how long they last.

I’m so totally Gadget Girl in real life, that such a title would be a natural for me. And not necessarily high-tech gadgets. I’m a former mechanic, baby. I already have a multi-tool in my purse. A what? Exactly.

  5. Caitlin Says:

My power would be over light, i would be able to create a void of light and to alter light that travels into a villians eyes changing what they see and thus confusing them. I would even be able to concentrate light in my hands making a mini light bomb that will temporarily blind anyone who catches a glance of it. My ability would also allow me to get a tan in winter, lol.
I would also have a sidekick dog that can also be used as a guide dog in case i accidentally blind myself. :p :)

  6. jrardin Says:

    La Bella’s wheels ROCK!

Tia, I actually do know what a multi-tool is! Not much mechanical aptitude under my belt (which is just a wide leather dealie with fake rivets), but great admiration for those who do!

Caitlin, your power sounds amazing. And the sidekick is a brilliant backup plan!

  7. Penny Says:

I’m sorry, but with Gardening Girl being on the side of good, I just have to be an evil super villian :-) I am the Concreter I drive around in my super fast Bugatti Veyron, summoning my fleet of concrete trunks driven by my evil henchmen to cover up all the grass and gardens in the world, and build containment units for all the nasty trees (well we do need oxygen). Bwwaaaahhhhhhhhhh

  8. jrardin Says:

Excellent! Now we have something to do other than just sit around headquarters playing Gin Rummy and arguing about whose turn it is to make dinner!

  9. Gareth Says:

LOL, thats were the Sidekick, Chef Boy turns up. LOL, no use on a mission but at least you’ll have a hot low cal meal to look forward to.

As to my super power got to think that one through, want something descent and useful.

  10. jrardin Says:

That’s a stroke o’ genius with Chef Boy. Tell him Gardening Girl is partial to lasagna, will ya?

  11. Kalea Says:

I have been trying for days to think up my superhero and just can’t think of anything. It’s really starting to irk me ’cause I remeber making up superidentities with a friend once. Oh well. I’ll keep trying, but until then I’ll just say that the best superhero ever is Batman. There will never be a hero or villan that can beat the Bat. Speaking of which anyone else uber excited about The Dark Knight? Only 5 days left. WOOHOO!

  12. Madie Says:

Fire! Power over fire. That would be totally … hot.

I’d completely suck at gin rummy though. Every girl’s got to have a sin.

  13. jrardin Says:

Hey Kalea, the trailers for Dark Knight look amazing. I’m a little freaked about the Heath Ledger connection though. Hoping the story will be riveting enough to take me out of the reality.

Madie’s burning down the house, yeah! And, really, somebody’s gotta lose at cards. Maybe we’d switch the game later. Anyone for Texas hold’em?

  14. Gareth Says:

And which one is the cheat using thier super power to see the opponents cards. LOL

  15. jrardin Says:

Ulp! Never thought of that. Now we’re going to have to have lead-lined cards or something. But since we probably all have amazing strength, it’ll be no problem holding them up with our muscular fingers!

  16. nikki Says:

i’ve decided that because i suck at ALL card games (yes even go fish) La Bella will be able to read all your thoughts and then i can win the card games…*laughs evily*…any money i’d screw it up lol!

  17. jrardin Says:

Yipes! Everybody stop thinking about your PIN numbers right now!

  18. Gareth Says:

Its all right Jenn. All you have to do is nail her on her share of the merchandise. Ie seeing as its your Superhero team you get to divy it up. After all you’ll have to merchandise everything so that you can afford that really cool superbase. Lets face it its not like you can bill people for saving thier lives but with Action Figures, T-Shirts, Badges, Sponsorship you’ll be loaded.

  19. Gareth Says:

Damn just remembered. Are we likely to see Jaz stuff?

“Jaz says “Fangs for the Memories!”
“Jaz says ” So long Blood Bag”
“Jaz Says “I’ll give you all the Grief you want.”

Etc. LOL The mugs and T-shirts are on the way. LOL

  20. jrardin Says:

First of all, you’re going to have to be our boy genius for figuring out how to fund the crime-fighting. And secondly, So long blood bag? LMAO!

  21. Gareth Says:

    Hey Jenn,
If you want Jaz to use it feel free. (A tip of the hat in the acknowledgements would be cool though.)

As to financing the Super Heroes, its done, the Action Figures, the T-Shirts, the mugs, the sponsorship on the outfits, the comics, badges, the kids costumes so they can pretend to be you etc. Mind you I would suggest getting a fashion designer in for the outfits, a PR Guru (who will more than pay for themselves) and head off anything negative and a damn good accountant.

  22. jrardin Says:

I think I’ll let you keep the cool phrases, though I will say you should check out the acknowledgements in One More Bite kinda closely!

  23. Gareth Says:

Will do Roll on its print date.
