Bulking Up

Hubby and I have just joined Sam’s Club. Apparently when you hit your mid-forties, you develop a desperate need for twelve-packs of facial tissue, because after shopping the afternoon away, filling our cart with mounds of cheese and soap, we are so sure we’ll never go to the store again that we’re considering selling the car! What do you guys eat so much of that you could easily buy a ten-pound package of it and it would never go bad??

Cheese for us too! And chocolate.

  2. Penny W Says:

Hmmm, in no particular order, apples, flour, sugar, rice, pasta, rolled oats, and weet-bix :-) Actually we do buy some of these in 5kg bags or larger…… :-D You should see how many apples we can munch through in a week, thank heavens for the farmers market :-)

  3. Wendy Says:

LOL!! :) We tried BJ’s once and you know, Wal-mart was still just as cheap or chaeper and I didn’t have to pay membership! I love Wal-mart!!
Spaghetti and sauce and macaroni and cheese (the BLUE box, has to be Kraft for my hubby) are the food items that I just can’t keep ahead of in my house. Ceral is a close one, but so far, so good!! :)

  4. Marissa Turner Says:

    Blackberries.
Freshies (those are for the dog, not me).
Oranges, tangerines, strawberries, apples, pineapple, and red grapes.
    Sharp cheddar cheese.
    And pepperoni.

  5. Uniasus Says:

Chocolate, and since i’m a poor collage student, ramen noodles and dino chicken nuggets! It’s a good place for getting spices and lot of juice boxes too. Or just browsing through and making a lunch of all the samples.

And granola bars. And those snack crackers. And I love their apple pie and muffins. Mmm, muffins.

  6. Caitlin Says:

Dr.Pepper! I keep telling myself to cut back because it makes me edgy sometimes but like clock work every time I eat out I get Dr.Pepper! Its a terrible yet so satisfying addiction.

  7. Tanja Says:

Chocolate keeps a long time ;-)
Another thing is cherries. I eat cherries in frightening amounts, whenever I can get some. Give me two days, and eating ten pounds of cherries wouldn´t be a problem.

  8. Cas Says:

CEREAL! Seriously, I have so many boxes my dad had to build an extra cupboard to put them in. And they still over-flow onto the top of the fridge.

Here it Costco’s you name it they sell it. I-shit-you-not they even sell caskets in some of the stores. Anyway back to the question… Mangos & raspberries, what is not eaten fresh in the first few days is then made in to home made gelato.
    Hey did you know that you can shred cheese & then freeze it? (I think when you buy that much cheese they should give you a FREE bottle of prune juice just so things keep moving) :}

  10. Zita Says:

Well, I believe I can honestly say all of the above. LOL!

  11. Nicole Says:

When I was in college I lived off queso fresco and nachos and doctored up totinos pizzas. Now I’ve become addicted to bagels and cream cheese.

  12. Sophie Says:

Has to be chocolate and cups of tea! Could survive of those alone for a shockingly long time! Never last long in my house.

  13. Vale Says:

Cookies!! I love cookies! I love chocolate too, but that doesn’t disappear as faster, he he. And – I know you’re thinking about it, Jen ;-) – yes, we do eat a lot of pasta.

  14. Rowena Says:

Anything that I think will keep for ages so that “when the world ends” I will have food for the family… they think I’m mad lol, but I read WAY too many “End of the World” books and have this need to be prepared. I think it’s with having lots of kids lol. If I had storage space I would totally have a bunker with food and supplies for at least 6 months, all secure and with a secret entrance and everything :-D
We shop almost every day, no matter how much we buy of anything it is all gone by the time I go to get some – my family can eat a weeks supply of food in an hour if I forget to set the traps in the kitchen… biscuits (cookies) especially chocolate ones seem to vanish extra fast, as do doughnuts and crisps (chips).

What an interesting combination, Jill. Do those go well with gumballs?

Ahh, Penny, you guys eat so healthy. We all just look at you and think…someday.

    LOL, Wendy!

I wouldn’t have guessed pepperoni, Marissa. That’s kinda cool.

We were going to see if the kid liked ramen noodles, Uniasus, but then decided he’d figure it out for himself soon enough!

I feel the same about Diet Coke, Caitlin!

    I completely understand, Tanja.

But it’s so nutritious, Cas! No guilt there.

Okay, if I’m ever in your neighborhood, we are going to see the caskets, Lola!

You are one excellent shopper, Zita!

I had nachos yesterday, Nicole. Such a satisfying snack.

I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I had chocolate, Sophie. Hubby has now lost 95 pounds, so we’ve cut waaaay back. Well worth it.

Vale, every time we visit my father-in-law (who is, hands down, the sweetest man on earth) I have to get a couple of gingersnaps from his cookie jar. So satisfying!

Don’t tell anyone where you live, Rowena. They’ll be there the instant there’s a disaster!

  16. Sophie Says:

Wow that’s amazing, Well Done to your hubby! Can’t imagine life without chocolate, but i may regret that in later life!

  17. Rowena Says:

That’s OK, they can be my fresh protein on the hoof lol :-D

  18. Liz Says:

I work for Sam’s so welcome to the crazy member group. and cheese and chips for nachos…..ohhh heavenly devine snacks! i could live on these if only they were weight loss guaranteed food!

  19. jrardin Says:

LOL! My hubby loves the little sampling stations. He will walk around the entire store to make sure he hasn’t missed any!
