1: d- her smartass wisecracks that have me laughing til I cry
2:d – he KNOWS more about Jaz’s family than he let’s on. And I want to see him playing with EJ!!
3: I have to pick just ONE????? I can’t!!!!!!
4: Jack. I think he understands more than he’s letting on.
5: I really don’t like anything in dark alleys. In fact let’s just stay out of alleys at all ok?
May 18th, 2009 at 11:03 am
1. d) I would say all of them, as without any she wouldn’t be Jaz.
2. c) Go hidden depths!
3. When Jaz calls Vayl a blood whore, I have so many faves but that makes me lol so much at the most random times.
4. a) It changes frequently, most of the time Jaz though, she’s got so many different sides and does things you really wouldn’t expect.
5. e) I would be scared of all of these, in a dark alley even a cat could scare me.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
1. D-my favorite quality of Jaz is that she’s so tough at times and so wounded at others, kind of like me
2-C–It’s also very funny!
3-”Hey, Vayl look! It’s vampire barbie!” that line is probably the funniest and that whole part from the first one
4-I think (aside from Jaz & Vayl) that Raoul is my favorite character. I love it when he says: STOP STARTING FIRES! it sounds like he’s advocating for Smokey the bear! And he’s probably the coolest person to see when you have and out-of-body experience, anyway
5-E-probably a Mahghul or a reaver, but the fact that I was in a dark alley would scare me too
May 18th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
1.)D. That she is so multi-faceted. She seems to handle things in a very straight-foward manner, yet is tender. Plus, I love her smart-alec comments too. They make me laugh out loud.
2.)C. I like that it is not all about the sex, or the toughness, he’s layered in a great way.
3.)”…What are you waiting for, Hot Stuff? You wanted to shoot somebody, there he is! Tell you what, why don’t you aim for the guy? I hear it hurts more and it takes them longer to die.” Jazz-Biting the Bullet
4.)C. Although I couldn’t read the series if wasn’t focused on Jazz and Vayl, Cole seems to me to be the heart of them. It’s like seeing Jazz back before all the horror.
5.)C. The mahghul, to have all of your emotions gone, what a pitiful existence.
May 18th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
1 – a Come on shes just a awesome take no prisoners gal, who won’t let her fears slow her down.
2 – c fear of snakes gives him a human sensitive side.
3 – do I have to pick, ummm, most of the dialogue
4 – 3 way tie between Jaz, Vayl and Cassandra here. Jaz as her character is just so kick ass awesome (I do like a strong female charcter), Vayl cos he knows so much, what is’t he saying and did he work with Granny May and what are Vayl and Jaz going to get up to relationship wise next book??? Cassandra, see Jaz plus she knows far more than shes letting on.
5 – Reaver, definatly, nothing wrong with a familiar dark alley otherwise
May 18th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
1. D-Her sarcastic humour
2. D-He’s sexy!
3. Okay it’s a bit long but…
Cole: I just thought of a new game
Jaz: What’s that?
Cole: Splat the Specter
Jaz: Rules?
Cole: You can help me make them up. Right now all I know for sure is that it involves water guns filled with grape Kool-aid and two ferrets named Biff and Chlamydia
4. G-I think it’s the whole mix of em. Like, if you eat all the ingredients for cupcakes by themselves they aren’t especially special yet when you mix ‘em up… om nom nom
5. B) Reaver-That whole third eye thing? Yech!
May 18th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
1. d. She’s a baddass on so many levels but a complete closet-softie with a wicked sense of humour. Love love love the sarcasm
2. c. The fact that he’s such a stud but he’s scared of snakes. But also that he is so controlled with a fierce undercurrent of sexuality and danger
3. from the entire series so far???? I dont think you have enough room for all my faves. Lemme get back to you…
4. Its a four-way tie
a. Jaz: love the sarcasm and she does stuff she hates cos they matter to the people she loves
b. Vayl: what’s not to love
c. Cole: his sense of humour and the fact that he is such a s*!t-stirrer
d. Bergman: paranoia is so much fun
5. b. Reaver or c. Mahghul
I wouldnt like either of these in a well lit room thankyou very much
May 18th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
1.B definitely. Plus she’s pretty tough n herself.
2.D his eyes!!! Siberian husky blue through muddy brown, amber and to that extremely promising emerald green.
3. Very difficult question as I laugh myself silly so many times..I like the one where Vayl has been dreaming about a bathtub and whipped cream…(And what does that say about me I wonder..)
4.J &V, obviously. Cole is pretty high up as well.
5. The Kiron thing. Ugh.
May 19th, 2009 at 1:31 am
1. D: she’s got skill, but she’s not superwoman. (I get tired of reading about heroines who are either stumble blindly through the plot and get lucky at the end or go through the entire book like Superwoman without a single ounce of vulnerability)
2. C: that surprised me. makes me want to know what else about him will surprise me.
3. gah! you have some of the best written dialogue and inner monologue that i’ve ever read (and that’s saying something) if I had to pick off the top of my head . . .
Bitten to Death p. 143
Vayl took a second to ponder. “Think of the body as what Pinocchio would have looked like if he had lied to the Mob”
“That’s so not funny.”
“Then why are you chuckling?”
“God, we are so warped….”
4. Jaz because she’s a strong character with faults and vulnerabilites. Plus it’s fun being inside her head. Like a roller coaster ride on crack.
5. Reaver. Third eye thing creeps me out.
May 19th, 2009 at 2:48 am
1-b-cause you can trust her wif ur life + she stil kicks ass
2-c- he jus makes u curious cause he’s so secretive and u jus want mre
3-Another one bites the dust
“vaylhad fotced me in2 this, the lout. i began 2 plot my revenge,. the next time he slept i would crawl into his tent and draw a mustache one his face with red marker. i’d insist he went shoppin with me make him stand by a bin of pantiesz while i tried on clothes. i’d take him 2 Evies PTA meetin and volunteer him 2 serve cookies + punch”
v.funny visual image
4-Jaz cause shes kick ass and cn deal wif anyfin
5-reavers-3rd eye….soul-suckin demon…satan…..all equals one big nasty-and hetting a knife in his eye wud just b plain old hard!
May 19th, 2009 at 3:10 am
1. d – She’s been through an awful lot but is still pushing onwards and never backs down.
2. d – He’s a vampire. With a sense of humour. A DIRTY sense of humour, no less.
3. I can’t remember. But I remember laughing a lot at bits in Biting the Bullet.
4. Aside from Vayl and Jaz I’ve got to pick d) Bergman, because he’s an adorable geek type and g) David, because I do love his and Jaz’s wit.
No, wait, make that all the Parks siblings, because Evie’s a really sweet touch of normality.
5. Definitely c. *shudders*
May 19th, 2009 at 5:07 am
1 – b. Her loyalty–hard won, but never waver wavering after its given
2 – a. His age–you just know he’s been through amazing moments in history and you want all the details
3 – It has to be OMB, the scene where Jaz & Vaykl are at Raoul’s and Vayl gets upset and breaks the table and then how he tells Raoul. I laughed so much at that comment I cried not to mention hurt my sides laughing so much. That’s my favourite.
4 – Apart from Jaz & Vayl for obvious reasons, my favourite is Cole, he’s so sweet and innocent the way he acts, especially after he discovered that Jaz felt nothing for him, I just wanted to take him home and mother him. I love his sense of humour it’s so original and such a breath of fresh air.
5 – Lets just say it would be a very bad day for me if I spotted any of these in a dark alley I was in. SO I think I’ll just styay at home and hide under my bed, if that’s all the same!
May 19th, 2009 at 5:08 am
You wanna see Vayl hanging out with a baby? You DO trust him, dontcha, tori?
I’m with you, Emily. Dark alleys are to be avoided at all costs!
Loved your first answer, Melanie. Consider yourself hugged.
Interesting insight on Cole, Heather. And quite true.
Okay, Penny, next time I have to venture down an alley, you’re going with me!
Woohoo, Bec! That’s one of my fave pieces of dialogue too! (Nope, I have no idea where it came from. It just…happened.)
Love your take on Vayl, Eeyore. Hope you like what you see in him when you read Bitten in Two!
Yup, Anna, ya gotta love it when Vayl goes green!
I appreciate your first answer, Mashiara. I feel exactly the same.
Aw, yeah, sháuna maebhe, I remember writing the piece you picked from Another One Bites. Big fun just imagining all the evil she could get up to!
Yup, Chloe, I like Jaz for the same reason.
May 19th, 2009 at 6:25 am
1 ~ A. Girls got skills
2 ~ B! C’mon! past sexual exploits! Jaz went crazy the time she heard about how he fulfilled his ‘fantasy’.
3 ~ I have many, many, MANY favorite lines. The one I like most right now (I’m open at the page, might as well go with it) is:
“We could always kill somebody,” I suggested. “Are any of your girlfriends still alive?”
4 ~ Jaz, she’s not like a normal heroine. She’s got massive problems and I think that’s what makes her such a believable character.
5 ~ *puffs out chest* Nothing scares me! *shifty eyes*
May 19th, 2009 at 8:58 am
1. What’s your favorite quality in Jaz?
b. Her loyalty–hard won, but never waver wavering after its given
2. What makes Vayl the kind of vampire you want to hear more about?
d. Whilst being a rounded characters its the sensitve and vulnerable side that makes me want to read more
3. What is your favorite line from any book in the Jaz Parks series?
Can’t pick one, still want to hear someone yell, “Take that Bloodbag.”
4. Which character from the series is your favorite and why?
f. Albert – He’s quirky, he says what he thinks and to be blunt he doesn’t give a rats ass about anything other than what he perceives to be the greater good along with defending his family.
5. Which monster from the series would you least like to meet in a dark alley?
e. The Unknown, look at films like Jaws it scared the hell out of you without you seeing the “shark.” I think once its identified it loses a lot of its fear, to not know what it is or where it is coming from has to be the worst thing ever.
May 19th, 2009 at 10:58 am
1) D- wise cracks and awesome sense of humor!
2)C
3)When Cole Told Jaz the Protesters were putting her Peeps Down! i thought i was gonna fall outta my chair!
4)Jaz because she is tough, funny, loyal! but i have to say it’s hard to pick just one!
5)Reaver! Yuck!
May 19th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Okay, I have to base my answers on only three of the books that I have read – blame the libraries in Minnesota for not lending me a copy of the fourth book and the bookstore in town doesn’t carry it – I’m still trying to get my hands on a copy though.
1. D. I love Jaz’s smart-ass comments, they are just hilarious.
2. C. Vayl is immortal – snakes can’t harm him, I found that very interesting and weird at the same time.
3. D. So many to chose from, so I chose this one – a vampire in a retirement village, it makes me laugh.
“You make it snow inside this car and I swear I’m going to park your butt in the middle of the next retirement village we come to and take the first plane I can find back to Ohio,”
4. I can’t pick just one – because if it isn’t for Jaz and Vayl there wouldn’t be any books to read.
5. E – all of the above.
May 19th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
1. a. Her ability to kick the asses of creatures three times her size
2. c. The fact that he’s such a stud but he’s scared of snakes. Come on, a guy like that’s gotta have even more hidden depths!
3. What is your favorite line from any book in the Jaz Parks series? I don’t have a favorite I end up smiling through half the books.
4. Which character from the series is your favorite and why? b. Vayl — He has such a mystery about him. Never revealing to much about himself. The quiet way he carries himself and commands those around him. He is just extremely intense all around.
5. Which monster from the series would you least like to meet in a dark alley? b. Reaver – The way it describes them stealing souls and the aftermath of the body left behind… EWW
May 19th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
1. b. Her loyalty–hard won, but never waver wavering after its given. Though I like a lot of other things about her!
2. c. The fact that he’s such a stud but he’s scared of snakes. Come on, a guy like that’s gotta have even more hidden depths! That, and when I started reading this series, he reminded me of Angel!
3. hmmmm…I like the bloodwhore one, made me rofl for a long time, same with the vampire Barbie one. I’d have to say my favorite though is near the beginning of OBTS. “Can’t we just agree that I’m a cretin and you’re a snob and move on?”
That one about killed me laughing!
4. b. Vayl–he’s just got so much more patience than I do! I also like Cassandra a lot though!
5. b. Reaver–Those things just give me the willies…
May 19th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
1- B! And A on the second place.
2- D: He’s old, so he’s got plenty of experience (helpful and interesting thing) and he’s cinic when necessary. Still, even with his age and the cinism, he is both capable and willing to share such strong and deep-rooted feelings as those he shares with Jaz.
3- Ok, apart from the obvious, that is, I absolutely love all of the books, there is a line I put into my personal bunch of fav quotes:
Vayl: “Easy is for fools and the truly dead, Jasmine. Remember that” from Once Bitten
4- B, Vayl. Why? Needs asking?!
See answer 2. I also love the fact that he’s as loyal as Jaz is, you can trust him and you really can count on him.
5- Hhmmm… B and A struggling for the first place. The Reavers aren’t as scary looking as the Kyron, but still, I think they’re that kind of things that scare you even more because they can manage to look normal.
May 19th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
1. What’s your favorite quality in Jaz?
d. Her quirky view on things and the way she has a tendency to ramble.
2. What makes Vayl the kind of vampire you want to hear more about?
c. The fact that he’s such a stud but he’s scared of snakes. Come on, a guy like that’s gotta have even more hidden depths!
3. What is your favorite line from any book in the Jaz Parks series?
Oh gosh. There are lots.. I especially love the ones where it’s inside Jaz’s head. Eg my two favs:
- So of course that was the moment my motherboard decided to do a short internal scan, throw up its hands, and screech, “Dear Lawd, a VAMPIRE has taken mah blood!” and initiate a general shutdown. – Another One Bites The Dust
and
- Then I got this image of my big toe, painted bright red, suddenly developing a face and a hot Southern temper to match, screaming, “What the hell is wrong with mah bad self?” – One More Bite
4. Which character from the series is your favorite and why?
a. Jaz Parks – I love a strong female character. She’s weird and quirky, funny, strong, and kicks ass to boot! Also Raoul. He just seems so… long suffering when it comes to Jaz. And I’d love to know more about his past.
5. Which monster from the series would you least like to meet in a dark alley?
a. Kyron
May 19th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
1.b. The perfect heroine… and c.
2.a. So excited to hear the details
3. Too many:
What do you say when you find out your blood is really filling? It’s not a Manwich; it’s a meal!
Well, that’ll never come out, even with bleach.
4. Vayl, wounded, but still somehow the strong one of the two.
5. Reavers, definitely creeptastic. There’s something so creepy about a creature that looks almost human, but not quite.
May 19th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
1. B, and her smartass-ness.
2. All of the above. The old world charm, I laugh how he cringes when she curses. His sense of humor too.
3. Thats a hard one. I like the “vampire Barbie comment and the things she calls Vayl like “blood whore”.
4.Jaz and Vayl. I like the relationship working and personal between the two.
5. B & C. Alive or dead either way you are screwed.
May 19th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
1. What’s your favorite quality in Jaz?
d. her ability to see humor in even the darkest situation. I adore her inner monologues.
2. What makes Vayl the kind of vampire you want to hear more about?
d. It’s simple. Vayl’s personality is a deep pool. The more you learn about him, the more you realize that there’s so much more to learn. I’m looking forward to seeing each different facet of his world!
3. What is your favorite line from any book in the Jaz Parks series?
“You make me sound like a granola bar” – Jaz. From One Bitten Twice Shy. It really cracked me up the first time I read it! Not sure why…
4. Which character from the series is your favorite and why?
a. Jaz Parks (why?) – Because I identify with Jaz (in some ways)and I enjoy seeing the world from her perspective. She also entertains me to no end (in a different way from Cole, though I love him to pieces as well), and she’s uber talented yet down to earth.
5. Which monster from the series would you least like to meet in a dark alley?
b. Reaver. I would definitely pass on meeting ANY of those creatures in a dark alley, but reavers top the list. The whole “soul licking” deal freaks me out.
May 20th, 2009 at 5:19 am
I like that line, too, Taylor. What present girlfriend hasn’t felt that way about past girlfriends?
I had a feeling you were gonna pick Albert, Gareth!
Another vote for reavers, gotcha, Nina. I must tell you this only makes me want to create something that makes you go, “Double yuck!”
Clearly we need to bring Minnesota on board the Jaztrain, Gayle. Getcher tickets here!
I like intense guys too, Trianna. But I will tell you, that makes him very hard to write. My editor always ends up sending me back to him because he’s such a mystery, you have to be very still before you can begin to figure him out!
Cool, Andie! I think you’re going to be pleased with Cassandra’s role in Bite Marks then.
Interesting line that you picked out, Vale. Thanks for bringing that one up.
I didn’t realize so many people were interested in Raoul, Elle. He continues to want to stay in the shadows for now, but maybe I can coax him to take a bigger role in a future book.
Cool answers, Karen, thanks!!!
I like your note about Vayl cringing, Theresa. Some habits don’t die hard, they just don’t die.
Glad you like the inner monologues, Monica. My daughter says those are her faves too.
May 20th, 2009 at 6:46 am
1. A
2. B
3. I can’t pick one. It’s too hard.
4. Bergman – he’s such a science geek. A lot of my books have kick butt heroines, but this is the only one I read regularly that has a science geek.
5. Reaver
May 20th, 2009 at 8:00 am
1-D:That even though she has been through hell in her life (litarally)she still believes in good things!
2-D: GOD where do i start!? All of thee above & then some!
3-:I cant chose its to hard!!!!
4-A:I feel connected to her so shes my fav!
5-D: ALL the Vampere! Eeeekkkk, i JUST crawled back out from under my bed!
May 20th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
1) Definitely A
2) D–There’s just so much about his character that I feel like I can only guess, past sexual exploits included ^_~, that I feel there is more to know and wanting to know them, even if they are little details is why I’m interested.
3)Um….I can’t choose. I would just buy extra copies of the books, cut them up, and place all the lines in a hat and draw one at random, but that would require time I don’t have.
4) Jaz, all the way. Why? Cuz she kicks ass and is very dependable. And her sense of humor always has me smiling.
5) A
5)
May 20th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
1. A along with her wise-ass remarks while doing it
2. C. I can’t wait to see some of what is hidden beneath the surface
3. I just can’t chose. There are too many that I love.
4. Jaz or Vayl. I love Jaz’s remarks and mental monologues. She’s also just totally awesome. Vayl because there is just so much to learn about him. He is so mysterious. And together waht could be better?
5. B and C. The reavers are nasty but to be without emotions is just as scary.
May 20th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
1. D I love how she can focus when she needs to and can break down afterward!
2. C!!!!
3. I love it when Jaz calls Vayl a Blood Whore!! Had me in stitches for days!
4. They are all my favorite, Jaz and Vayl are higher on the list but I don’t have one specific favorite.
5. All of them! I am no Jaz!!
May 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
MY answers!
1. A. Who doesn’t love a girl who can kick ass and take names?
2. C. I bet there is a well brimming with information about him, and his past few hundred years, and, frankly, i want it all.
3. I think I’ll have to get back to you on that badboy.
Does everything count?
4. Jaz. The main reason is that its goddamn REFRESHING to meet someone who is JUST as angry as I am. Someone who’s totally cool with people not liking her.
5. I’m not really partial to dark alleys. I’ve been working on my martial arts though, so it might give me chance to practice my ass kicking skills.
But, really, not a fan of dark alleys. They contain spiders and crackheads, which, if you lived in Vancouver, you would know are infinitely more frightening then your monsters.
June 9th, 2009 at 8:13 am
1. d. I just love her random comments on stuff (:
2. d. He’s a vampire…
