And the Winner Is . . .

Yeah, you guessed it.  The Reader’s Choice for our leadup story to the big, bad, mass market release of Once Bitten, Twice Shy (crowd cheers pleeze!) is number one.  We won’t call it a landslide, but a huge majority of you picked the following:

1. I want to read about the time before Jaz partnered with Vayl, when he shadowed her during one of her solo missions in order to decide if he should take her on.

So I’ll begin outlining the piece tonight and in a week or two you can look forward to a new twist on the Jaz & Vayl story.  Which will be kinda cool, because I’m already moving it in quite an interesting direction for Bitten in Two.

We’re also planning a slight update of the website, hopefully before the end of the month, but that all depends on if the divers can find our computer gurus under all that paper.  I believe somebody heard slight rattling sounds last week, so we are in with a good chance.

In other news, my guys were off to the races today, which gave me the chance to rent Twilight.  No, I hadn’t seen it in theaters.  Yes, I read the  book.  I thought the romance aspect was pretty hot.  I also figured if I ever made Vayl sparkle you guys would find out where I lived and come kick my ass.  However, that’s what cool about vamps, right?  We love their crazy quirks.  We even love the fact that they scare the hell out of us.  (I thought Victoria was awfully menacing, didn’t you?  But I was especially interested in her hair, since my beautician informed me that look is her eventual goal for me.)

So what do you think?  Is Twilight your fave vamp movie?  Or do you have another you’d like to mention?  I have my movie list out and I’m ready to jot down your suggestions!

  1. Jeff Says:

I don’t have a fav vamp movie probably due to the fact that I have my own ideas on vampires and there isn’t a movie out there that has all of them. (not going to say what those ideas are since they’re in my yet to be published novel)

  2. Bec Says:

I used to be a major Twilighter but my friend Emma turned me to Jaz and Vayl and I haven’t turned back! I now realise that I prefer the action and sarcastic comments much more than sparkling ‘vegetarians’.

Vampire-wise, Twilight is my fave movie. Carlisle=drool…
But out of any movie my favourite is a three way tie.
    1. Fired Up!
    2. Singin’ in the Rain
    3. On the Town

The last two are Gene Kelly movies. Love the dancing and costumes. Wish they still made good ol’ dancin’ movies now-a-days. God I sound like my mum!

  3. Anna Says:

I had never read any kind of vamp book until I picked up Twilight. And all the other sequels that I more or less blew through in a weekend. And then I went prowling and found Jaz & Vayl… Talk about moving up the ladder :) . Don’t get me wrong; should Mr Cullen land in my lap I would be thrilled (although seriously struggling with toy boy issues). Should Vayl land in my lap I’d more or less faint… on the spot, giggling like a crackdriven hyena. I so obviously have issues, don’t I?
Re the Twilight movie: Books are ALWAYS better. Re other Vamp movies: I liked the one with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Might have had more to do with the leading men (what is it with me???)

  4. Loz Says:

I used to love twilight before the hype. But my fave Vampire movie of all time…Van Helsing. Hugh Jackman, Richard Roxburg and David Wenham. It’s an Australian invasion. :)

  5. Mel Says:

Twilight was *awful* and so was the book! Even as YA it was just silly and boring. Blah.

    Give me Lost Boys anytime.

  6. Taylor (: Says:

I haven’t seen many Vamp movies, though, I really did like Twilight.
I read Twilight back in 2006 and I’m just a little disturbed about how much hype it has now. I got a magazine the other day (some, teenage girly one) and on ever third page there was something about Twilight!
It just blew me away. LOL.
So, there you go, I’m more of a Vampire Book girl then a Vampire Movie girl. :D
Although, I just seen the Trailer for New Moon. It’s lookin’ pretty okay. (well that and I’ve read a script, although I’m not sure if the script is real. Seemed to be.)
    (:

  7. Darcie Says:

Twilight not my all time fav, but I do love it. I love ‘The Lost Boys’, ‘John Carpenter’s Vampires’, ‘Fright Night’ and the all time classic ‘Buffy: The Vampire Slayer’.

  8. Jo-Anne Says:

i hope to God that you never ever, ever, ever, ever make Vayl sparkle. That was one thing I couldn’t handle with Twilight. i thought it was silly.

    Anyway.

Vampire movies. The only one’s I’ve seen are all 3 Blade movies which i really enjoy. Dracula 2000, which has Gerard Butler as Dracula. (HE IS HOT!) lol. Underworld trilogy, which I also really like. Queen of the Damned was ok. Never seen Interview with the Vampire. Van Helsing. Nightwatch.
Here’s a link I found that has the top 70 vampire movies of all time.

  9. Summer Says:

Yay! I am sooo excited, Jennifer.

And lemme just get this outta the way, NO Sparkly Vayl for me. You’ve written Vayl perfectly.
I love Vayl just the way he is. He’s a Wraith so he’s already extra special. =)

My favorite Vampire movie could be Queen of the Damned. I like it mainly because of the soundtrack; it truly rocks!
Plus Stuart Townsend is very charming with exactly the speaking voice I imagined to be Lestat in the book.

The Twilight movie isn’t as good as I had it in my head.
For me, the books are ALWAYS better than their movie adaptations.
The intricate structure I could read from the pages of a book (or sometimes— graphic novel) could never equal anything on the big screen.
It IS the VERY true for Twilight movie.
I don’t think Hardwicke found the perfect midpoint between the visual (movie) and the lettered piece.
The Twilight movie was NOT bad. It’s just uh, NOT good. =)

  10. Summer Says:

Oh! Can I also add another vampire movie that I sooo love?

This one is a Japanese Animation (anime) called— Blood: The Last Vampire.
The back story is called— Blood+ (BloodPlus)
This is also coming out in a Live Action movie format this year. It’ll be widely released in the UK and slated for a limited run in the US in this July.

  11. Chuu~❤ Says:

Oh I’m so impatient to read this story!!!
    Thanks a lot !

Yeah twilight movie is really great !But “Blood the last vampire” seems to be very good too ^^ !
    What is your favorite ?

  12. Jade Says:

I used to be a twilight fan but jaz is so much cooler!
    YAY #1!!!!!!!!
    good vampire movies
    -shadow od a vampire
    -love at first bite
    -30 days of night

  13. Jade Says:

    *of a vampire

  14. Emma Says:

My three favourite vamp films a rather cliche.

Dracula 2000, Johnny Lee Miller (yum, yum)

The Lost Boys (No matter what I’m doing if it comes on TV I’ll watch it

    And here’s the cheese factor…
Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Kirsty Swanson

I know it’s cheesy, what can I say? I do love my cheese factor. I don’t care, if it’s piled on if I enjoy the film.

  15. Vale Says:

Diving in paper for the computer gurus? LOL!!! Besides, the site rocks already!

I haven’t watched it, and I don’t know if I even will. I’m one of those who read and loved the books, but think that the film as come out to be so completely different from the book that to watch the film would ruin my personal image of that world. I really have nothing against movies made from books, but I only like to watch the ones in which the result is faithful to the book. I prefer to stick with my image of the world in the book, than to have it ruined by the image from the film hanging around in my brain but having nothing to do with the actual story in the book. I don’t know if I’ll change my mind and watch the Twilight film, but so far I think I won’t.
I like the Underworld series – though I haven’t been able to watch the third one yet, I missed it when it was out in cinemas.

  16. Eileen Says:

I have to say, as much as I enjoyed the Twilight series (as a middle aged woman, wife, mother) – which surprised the heck out of me by the way, I didn’t expect to and put off reading it because I didn’t want to disappoint my daughter by not liking her recommendation – I think of your books as the “grown ups” fantasy. Vayl and Jaz’s relationship is just so much more complicated, intriguing, etc. And finally, the “quirk” that you devised for Vayl – his eyes changing colors with his mood – is just unbelievably cool, inventive and satisfying! Thank you so much! And as for the movies – Twilight was pretty good – some differences with the book were not good, and some ideas were very clever (the visual of having him climb those tall trees with her); but I’m hoping for more with New Moon.

  17. jrardin Says:

Okay, Jeff. I guess we’ll just have to wait to read all your (hopefully somewhat gory!) details!

Glad you said action, Bec. I’m just beginning a scene fulla that stuff! (Just debating whether or not anything should explode…)

OMG, Anna, you are totally cracking me up! I thought the dude who played Edward nailed the character. Major intense. But I found myself vastly curious about Jasper. I don’t intend to watch New Moon, so you guys will have to let me know if they reveal more about him in it.

You can’t lose, with Hugh, can you Loz?

Amazingly, I have yet to watch Lost Boys all the way through, Mel. I’ve tuned in to parts of it on TV. This is evidently a gap in my movie experience I must fill!

Yeah, Taylor, I’m with you. When something gets that huge, I begin to get a little suspicious. It’s like, have you people even stopped to form your own opinions? Or are you just jumping on the bandwagon because you think it’s the “cool” thing to do?

I’ll have to look up Fright Night, Darcie. Haven’t seen that one. My kids bought me the Buffy movie last year. They were laughing and rolling their eyes when they gave it to me. But I love it!

Thanks for the list, Jo-Anne! I promise you, if Vayl ever sparkles, it will be part of an enormous joke wherein one of the other characters will be laughing so hard they may actually pee themselves.

Oh, Summer, I really liked Queen of the Damned too! May have to check that one out again soon.

I have not seen the movie you mentioned, Chuu. Will put it on my list. It’s hard for me to pick my favorite vamp movie. I loved the 1st and third ones in the Blade trilogy. 30 Days of Night was pretty creepy (but in a good way!). But the ones I own are Underworld and Buffy, so that should probably tell you something!

Thanks for your list, Jade. I’ll add Shadow of a Vampire to mine–never seen it.

Cheese is good for you, Emma. Builds up the bones!

Yeah, I missed the 3rd Underworld movie too, Vale, and I didn’t realize it was a prequel, so now I’m not sure I’m interested. Maybe when I have nothing better to do.

    My pleasure, Eileen!

  18. DeDe Says:

My favorite vampire movies are the Blade series (especially the third one with Ryan Renolds) and 30 Days of Night because it portrays the vampires of nightmares.

I read the Twilight series when it first came out. I thought they were good, but not fantastic. There is only so much “Oh Edward”s I can take on one page before I mentally barf. But I appreciate them for the culture bomb the series has created.

I imagine you have read Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series. Recently HBO adapted the first in her series to a television show called True Blood. I love it to death. It sticks pretty close to the novel, but seeing it put together is unreal. Sometimes it is just plain weird, but it grows on you! Her series and yours are my top favorites in recommending to friends. I started reading your’s not long after I began Twilight. After reading a few pages of the first in the bookstore, I bought the first three right on the spot.

  19. Zita Hildebrandt Says:

I really liked Underworld 1&2. Kate Beckinsale did that role so well. She’s such a kick-ass heroine. I’ve found I tend to picture her in a lot of urban fantasy heroine roles. Change the hair colour, un-vamp her, and viola, she’s Jaz! Turn her into a half-vamp,again, change the hair, and she’s Jeaniene Frost’s Cat. I think I have Kate stuck in my brain as a template :-)

  20. Samantha Says:

    Okay, this is not vampire related but I just heard this song & knew I had to share it with you all! Here is the link;

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjr-Rur2D_c&feature=channel_page

  21. Eimear Says:

OMG if you make Vayl sparkle i would actually cry with despair… and then go kick your butt :) lol!

i used to LOVE twilight but then the movie came out and suddenly everyone was obsessed with it. i drew the line when all the bimbos of my year started to talk about it in the girls toilets and then i just decided it wasnt good anymore! lol! plus the movie was SO not as good as the book, altough i agree that Jasper was soo mysterious in it.

i have to say my favourite vampire movies are Queen Of The Damned, and the Blade Trilogy… please, how could you not love that totally hot daywalking half vampire trying to go against his nature and kill every vamprire he sees in order to avenge the death of a mother he never knew… gotta love a guy like that.. :)

  22. tori Says:

You have GOT to see Dracula performed as ballet. It’s my fab. Movie wise it’s the Underworld trilogies.

  23. Jemma Says:

I loved the Twilight books and had them finished before the hype. Like most of you i didn’t think the film was as good as the book, but then again, they never are in my opinion.
Fav vamp movies inc the underworld moves and Blade. I also liked the first from Dusk ’til Dawn – it wasn’t that it was a great movie but something about it appealed to me.
Yeah for #1 so can’t wait for the next installment.

  24. Penny Says:

Twilight was okay, espically as a girls night out lol. Though I preferred the book (which I was prereading). But Jaz and Vayl are way better.
John Carpenters Vampires, Underworld, and the original Dracula (black and white) are three favs. I do like True Blood (as well as the books), and am awaiting the LKH movies with baited breath (and that’ll be another girls night out).

  25. Rayne Says:

I read the Twilight series and loved it, and I was super excited when the movie came out, but while I was sitting there watching it and listening to all the fangirls shriek about Robert Pattinson(gag) I kinda wished I hadn’t gone. No offense to anyone who actually likes Robert Pattinson. I got nothing against him, he’s just funny-lookin’. But anyway, before it came out I figured the movie could go either way. It could be really good and make me love the series more, or it could be really bad and successfully torture the crap out of me in advertising for the next couple years. The latter was what I got. It doesn’t help that the next one comes out on my birthday.
I don’t think I have a favorite vampire movie though, because most of ‘em are takes on books that ive read and they just get ruined when you make a movie adaption out of it. Please Jen, I beg of you, don’t let it happen to Jaz! I mean, if a movie gets made dont let some half-wit director ruin your image! :D

  26. Kate Says:

Buffy all the way for me (the TV show not the film) – is that cheating? I love how it managed to deal with some really interesting and serious issues without preaching while being really witty and well written. I also much prefer Angel to Edward, and think that Buffy and Angel’s relationship was much much better than Bella and Edward’s. I also didn’t mind Buffy and Spike :-)

  27. Megan Says:

I can’t say that it’s my favorite vampire movie but I love Dracula: Dead and Loving It; Mel Brooks is hilarious.

I am a fan of the twilight books but the movie was nowhere near as good (and yet I bought it anyway, go figure).

  28. Andie Says:

Well, I haven’t seen the movie for Twilight, but I did not think much of the book. I felt that Bella was too much of a weakling teaching the young girls to always wait for the boys to save them. I haven’t continued with that series. I don’t think we need to teach young girls in this country that boys have to save them all the time.

As for other vampire movies, I liked the Underworld series, and Van Helsing, but I’ve been more of a vamp tv series kind of girl.

I have all the dvds for Buffy and Angel. I got the dvds for Moonlight (which I was really ticked that it got cancelled!) I really liked that one, and I just got True Blood season 1. Pretty good, even with some of the changes they made from Charlaine’s books. I’m waiting for the dvds to come out for Blood Ties. If you haven’t seen it, that one was pretty good as well. :)

  29. KrYsSi Says:

-sob- I love the Lost Boys, terrible and totally good, the Frog was my first *loser* I had a crush on, not that he was attractive, just him in general.

Dracula was good. Angel was an AWESOME tv show. Angel and Spike were just B.A.

And I think twilight is just as horrible as it can come. C’mon, they SPARKLE!!!! -sob- though, I kinda liked Jacob until he turned into that blob of “I LURV BELLA” and then the baby thing -shudders-
I actually just gave my brother the four books for him to read.

And yes, if you ever made Vayl sparkle, I’d find you. Unless he was undercover as like, a male stripper, ’cause common DROOL!!

  30. Eeyore Says:

I hated Twilight. As a vamp book it was just so damn flacid but as a teen romance it was probably just boring. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never did.

For vamp movies, you cant go past THE LOST BOYS or FROM DUSK TIL DAWN.

  31. Becky Says:

I think my favorite vampire movie is “Bram Stroker’s Dracula.” I really felt like that was the movie that made it possible for vampire movies to say its alright to be sexy and scary at the same time. How can you go wrong with Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins in your cast?

  32. Bec Says:

OMG OMG. Please have an explosion. That would be epic!
    :D

  33. Emma Says:

Here’s a thought…what happens when you watch a series adapted from a book like Blood ties for example, and then read the books.
I have to say I prefer the series.

  34. Chloe Says:

I don’t really watch many movies, let alone vampire movies, so I’ve got no suggestions. I do have a few favourites, like MirrorMask, The Jacket (seriously cool and my absolute favourite, although some people won’t like the isolation chamber scenes…), V for Vendetta and, kinda, Atonement. Oh, and Princess Mononoke.

As to what I thought of Twilight: the movie, I really didn’t like it. I loved the book, but the directing and editing removed all the good bits that should’ve been there. Even though the second one is going to have a different director, I’m still somewhat afraid of seeing it, as the movie has ruined Twilight for me.

The above is what happens when you see it twice with a friend who is as much a fan as you are and both of you like to analyse movies.

  35. jrardin Says:

Yup, DeDe, I have read all of Charlaine’s Sookie books. In fact, she was kind enough to provide a quote for one of mine. I haven’t seen True Blood (don’t get HBO) but have heard enough good things that I may buy the series as it’s released on DVD. Thanks so much for grabbing my books the way you did. Inspiring!

Yeah, Zita, Kate can definitely do badass. I just don’t know if she can pull off funny and vulnerable in the same movie. I’d sure be willing to give her a chance though!

    Thanks for the link, Samantha!

Our tastes run very similar, Eimear. Hey, what if Vayl accidentally got sprayed with some body glitter? That could be funny!

Wow, tori, I didn’t know a Dracula ballet existed. That might even interest the guys in my family enough that they’d consent to go with me!

Yeah, I kinda like From Dusk ’til Dawn too, Jemma. Too bad nothing he did after that came even close.

Hilarious story, Penny. When I was twelve they were going to air the original Dracula movie on TV. I looked forward to that for a solid week and then it was preempted. Imagine me storming out of the room in tears. (Yes, I was that pissed!) Then when they did air the movie it scared me so bad I watched half of it through my cracked fingers! This, my friends, is the true beginning of my vamp obsession–which is probably why I can’t ever take myself absolutely seriously.

I’ll do my best, Rayne. At the least I think I’m going to demand to be made a consultant. That way hopefully I can fend off the worst of the bad decisions!

Nope, Kate, that’s not cheating at all. I have to agree, Buffy and Spike were way hotter than Buffy and Angel. Although in the end, I think I preferred Angel’s series. Dunno why.

I agree, Megan, Mel Brooks is marvelous! After I’m done with the next few books I’m planning, I’d love to write a musical in his tradition. See if I can literally get them rolling in the aisles.

Yeah, Andie, I don’t have much patience for girls who won’t step up and save themselves either. I’ll have to try out the Blood Ties suggestion. Haven’t seen that one.

OMG, KrYsSi, Vayl as a stripper? You may have hit on a golden idea–but would he do it? Hmm…I’ll have to think about whether or not there’s a Chippendale stud hidden somewhere deep inside him!

Oh, Eeyore, there may be no better word for the day than “flacid.” I know what that brings to my mind!

Excellent point, Becky. Bram Stoker–one of my all-time literary heroes.

LOL, Bec! You like things that go boom-flame too? I’m thinking it won’t work in this scene, but maybe later. Combining toxic chemicals and magic cannot be a stable choice!

Excellent point, Emma. I saw the Dresden Files first as a TV series, and that’s still how I prefer them.

That’s a great list, Chloe. I’ll have to rent some of those! My daughter told me there’d be a different director for the second movie. But here’s my hangup–I hate to be sad when my whole goal is entertainment. And we all know the plot of New Moon. Which is why I never read the third book. Pretty much, if you break my heart, I’m done. Which is why I can’t promise you guys anything, but I will always try very hard never to break your hearts.

  36. Cath Says:

My favourite vampire movie would have to be a toss up between Queen of the Damned and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I think I have worn out those 2 DVD’s. Loved From Dusk To Dawn and Lost Boys, I saw Lost Boys 2 a couple of months back, it was alright. I’m over Twilight now, but I just saw the first trailer for New Moon and I can’t wait for it!

  37. EMarie Says:

    Underworld, Rise of the Lycans…

Wow! Loved it! I’m a fan of the whole thing but this last one was UH-MAZAZAZING!

  38. Penny Says:

For some reason I now have an image in my head of a body glitter sprayed, stripper Vayl, trying hard to be a “twilight vampire” stripper in some Washington club. Am going to be randomly grinning and cracking up all day lol :-D

  39. Andie Says:

Emma, I agree with you totally on Blood Ties. I found out about the books from the show, and sought them out. I was extremely disappointed in reading them to really get the feeling that Tanya Huff just wasn’t passionate about her characters. I had to force myself to finish the books.

Now with True Blood, I was through book 5 before I saw it. A lot of the book fans don’t like the show, but I like both for what they are. I’m very interested to see how the changes they made are going to effect the story in season 2.

They’re making an Anita Blake movie that’s coming out on IFC next year, and I’m really excited about that!

  40. Janelle Says:

I havn’t read the twilight series yet but I have wached the moive I got it for mother’s day. It wasn’t that bad, but I have only watched once so far. But I do have a few vampire moives that I like and there are a few series there as well, but for a short list it would have to be the Underworld series, Queen of the Damned and Interview with a Vampire thats for the moives. For the series (some well be anime) Moonlight, Buffy(in the begaining) Hellsing(anime) and Black Blood Brothers(anime). I’ve been told a lot about Ture Blood but I havn’t seen it yet and I’m hoping to see it soon

  41. Gabi Says:

I just Loved Twilight!! The books were great and they did a really good job with the movie! Bring on New Moon!! My other Fav Vamp Movies are Underworld & Underworld 2… FABULOUS!! Nothing like seeing chicks kickin ass ;)

  42. Karen Says:

I actually liked Twilight, but because in some bizarre way it reminded me of Jane Eyre and that genre of books. The movie left a lot to be desired, tho at least it stuck to the book. It actually got me back into reading — and I discovered Jaz & Vayl. Your books blow Twilight out of the water.

I’ve been a fan of vampires since Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows (and that dates me, I know). Does anyone remember Rick Springfield in Nick at Night (I think that was the name)? He was yummy.

Lost Boys is probably my favorite movie, tho Blade: Trilogy is a close second.

  43. Jo-Anne Says:

OMG! Vayl as a stripper. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And I think a mishap with body glitter would be hilarious. A Bergman invention gone wrong maybe?

  44. Megz Says:

the movie was ok however the book is so mch better

  45. Emma Says:

Creating a film/TV series is like Marmite you either love it or hate it.

For instance, BTVS/Angel was on TV long before they started writing books. So when you read the books after watching the series’ you already have a preconceived notion/idea of the characters and their surroundings. When it is the other way around and you read the books then watch the series you create an idea in your head of what the characters are like. In some cases they do the books a serious injustice, and can at times ruin the reader’s love of the books.

I’d rather they don’t create turn books into films/series…I just don’t believe it’s worth it.

  46. tori Says:

How about an invention that kinda worked right but then won’t come off!! Roflmao as I drool and look for a camera!!! Blackmail is always good – especially if family stories are involved.

  47. Samantha Says:

Here is the link to the New Moon trailer for thoses of you who haven’t seen it! I almost peed myself!

    http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810055802/video/13762324

  48. Emzie-pooh Says:

YAY!!! the one i voted for won. WHOOP!!!
I would have to tie you to a tree and let man-eating squirrels have a go at you if you let Vayl (drool) go all twinky like a five year old left alone with some glitter and a bag of sugared sweets. (you get my drift)
like most people here Dracula is the god of vampire movies BUT not the best in my eyes.
i love underworls and van helsing but my ULTIMATE fav. is Blade trilogy. i have a weakness for seeing Wesley Snipes in those glasses.

  49. Andais Says:

    Twilight books-awesome
Twilight movie-had a LOT of potential, but, left me wanting.
Being filmed in the city I live in though, so I have seen a few of the stars…

Vamp movies I love-Queen of the Damned is always great.
Interview with the Vampire, also awesome.
    Lost boys.
    From Dusk til Dawn.
Blade-at least the first 2. I wasn’t fond of the third.
    And, never forget, Underworld!

    xox

  50. jrardin Says:

Okay, Cath, I’m thinking we’re all going to have to plan a Lost Boys movie night, where we agree to rent the DVD, eat popcorn, and groove to the story, secure in the knowledge that we can all discuss it the following Monday. Should we go there sometime?

Okay, maybe I will rent it EMarie!

    Woohoo! I’m for that, Penny!

I heard about the Anita Blake movie, Andie. Hope they do it up right!

I liked Moonlight okay, Janelle. Really thought they should’ve given it more time.

Excellent point, Gabi. Jaz is about to do that herself. (Oh, my, the weapons we are packing this time around!)

Thanks, Karen! I do remember Dark Shadows, though I don’t think I watched a lot of episodes. Delightfully creepy.

Poor Bergman. It’s nice he occasionally gets one right, isn’t it Jo-Anne! You reminded me that there is a pretty hot scene involving Vayl in Bite Marks that I think you’ll enjoy. Not pages and pages–but then we try for quality over quantity.

True, Megz. If I hadn’t read the book, I wouldn’t have known what was going on inside their heads. And that’s the fun part for me.

Interesting point, Emma. I’ll vote for originality in film too, but I wouldn’t say no to Jaz & Vayl on the big screen.

I can’t think of a single character of mine who’s above blackmail, tori. Is that a bad thing?

    Thanks for the link, Samantha!

I agree, Emzie-pooh. Snipes kicked that role right in the ass.

Okay, that must’ve been pretty boss, Andais. I heard the kid who played Jacob put on 50 pounds of muscle for the second movie. Gawd.

Nahhh. Means their priorities are straight ;)

Back from the shadows.. which brings me to this list a bit different. favorite vampire movies: Queen of the Damned, Dark Shadows – the revival (Ben Cross is a pretty cool), and Underworld 1&2 (can’t bring myself to watch the pre-quel 3).
I do love the Twilight series, the movie could have been better, but hopefully the new director will do a better job in New Moon.

Make Vayl sparkly ???! NO! NO! NO!!! you can’T!!! since he is from a gipsy family, a characterstic is that they have a darker skin tone. Imagine a somewhat tanned looking Vayl with sparkles on him!!! GOD NO!!!! I can’t remember now how you have described Vayl’s features/skin color, but sparkles, no no !!! can’t do ! :) )
I am looking forward to your story.. re-reading Book 5 :)

Thank you again for Vayl and Jaz!!

  53. Gillian Says:

I don’t normally comment but I thought I’d put my two cents worth here.

I thought the ‘Twilight’ movie was faithful enough to the book and probably better. When you take into consideration that I think the book is deliciously bad, the movie still ends up on my watch list!

Although I’ve yet to see it (it’s on my netflix queue), Swedish film ‘Let The Right One In’ is supposedly a much film. A critically acclaimed adaptation of a novel of the same name, it’s the story of a 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child.

i thought you could add it to your list. :)

  54. Dottie Taylor Says:

Twilight is one of my favorite vamp movies, but first one that caught my attention was The Lost Boys. Then who could forget Underworld, Queen of the Damned, or Interview With A Vampire.

    Dottie :)

  55. Tegan Says:

    ahhhh oh my goshness
    im a mega twilight nerd
nd well i am jus letting you kno that the trailer for the second movie (new moon) is out nd lookin sooooooooooooooo amazing!!!!!!!
i totally suggest you google it

  56. Lauren K Says:

when i read the twilight series i liked them okay but lets face it they arent literary brilliance at its finest are they? they did get me way more into vampire books though so i have them to thank for pushing me to do research and discovering anitable books and of course your books too, ao i am greatful for having read them in that respect.
although now that i have read jaz and anita the twilight books just arent as exiting or sexy or action packed an trilling. they dont make my heart skip a beat at moments. and now that i look back on them… nothing of consequence actually happens… they lead to no where.

i have seen the movie close to twenty times in bits a pieces… and im still not sure whether i actually like it… or i just like laughing AT it.
i will say this for it. they couldnt have picked a hotter person to be carlisle. DAMN. he is the hotest male cast member for sure :P
i do hope for the new one they focus on the cullens a little more and not bella, she truly is a whiney little bitch. and girls need strong female rolemodels not someone who is content to llet a boy dictate what she does in life.
they might save the cullens for the third one though coz if i remember correctly… it was a long time ago i read it… you learn a alot about jasper and why he is the way he is in the third…

i will probaly cry for no less than a week if you EVER make vayl sparkle. unless as previously discussed it is in some hilariously awkward yet undeniably sexy way… with like sparkley body paint and like vayl undercover at the sydney mardi gras. that woukld be positivly school girl giggle inducing. :)

now onto my fave vampire movies.
i personally thingk interview with the vampire although SLIGHTLY different to the book (which i think is probably one of the most beautifully writen books i have ever read) is amazing. i dislike tom cruise and yes (SHOCK HORROR) brad pitt too. i cant stand EITHER of them and i think they are both brilliant in it. high praise coming from me coz sheriously *shudder* OH and antonio bandreas fucking AWESOME. love him. and hes pretty great as aramond.
lost boys is also a CLASSIC.
i do enjoy a bit of angel and true blood wasnt all that bad but i did try to read the books after and couldnt get in to them so im not sure how you will fare coming from the opposite way but give it a go!
holy shit this is getting long…. just one more thing i swear!

now that i have read the lastest anita blake (which i enjoyed a lot more than some of the other late ones…) yours is the next release im not so patiently waiting for :) just so you know :)
the next one is the australia one right? it will be interesting as an aussie to see how you, not being from australia, discribe the scenery and stuff we see on a daily basis and think nothing of ya know? does that make sence? :S

anyway i think i have taken up enough of your time, cograts if you even made it to this point. i tend to ramble when im talking about stuff im intersted in.
thanks for writing some of my favourite books. :)
ps. cant wait for the extra scene! :D

  57. jrardin Says:

    LOL. tori!

It’s great to hear from you again, Alina! Are you sure about Vayl? We could do a bit where he falls into a vat of that glittery cake decor.

Thanks, Gillian! I’ll definitely jot that one down!

    All excellent pix, Dottie!!

It was the flying through the treetops that gotcha, wasn’t it Tegan?

Thanks for the post, Lauren K. Lotsa good comments. (Although, I admit, I’m doing some nail-biting regarding how you Aussies will receive the new Jaz Parks release. I’ll just tell you right now I think your country/continent is fabulous. Hope I did that little corner of it justice!)

  58. jade Says:

    BTW
    lost boys is a dud
queen of the dammed has dammed its own storyline
    AND
even though theter of blood isnt a vamp movie its still worth a whatching.

  59. Chelsea Says:

Personally, I started to hate Twilight more and more. Just the creepy love thing..so unrealistic. I really didn’t like the movie either. It’s so cheesy and fake. That’s just my honest opinion though. I don’t see why it got so much more attention than Harry Potter has. Really now..it’s silly.

  60. Uniasus Says:

Twilight was…entertaining but it would be far from a favorite of mine, book or movie, general or vamp genre. I mean, the idea of a sparkly hunk who want to spend forever with you is exciting, Edward is such a creeper! I mean really, I do not want to go out with a guy who watched me sleep every night. And that relationship can’t be healthy. I mean, Bella’s life seems to be only wrapped around Edward. I much prefer a strong, independent female.

Wish I could recommend a good vamp flick, but I’m fairly new to this part of the universe. But The Little Vampire is cute. Yeah yeah its a children’s movie but sometimes all you want is something you can enjoy without thinking too much. Like Twilight ^_~

  61. rox! Says:

Holy cow, that’s a lot of posts ;-) Don’t think I can add an original thought here. Read Twilight first edition way back when only because I was going through Buffy withdrawals and needed a vamp hit. It was sooo hard to find something to fill the void. Twilight didn’t even come close. Not complex, not substantial, not something. Bleh. Died and went to heaven when I found Jaz Book 1 at the library last year. You have my undead thanks, jrardin. Movies? Coming of age in the 80s, Lost Boys does it for me. Although Interview with a Vampire awed me and not bec of Pitt or Cruise, but Banderas? Very fang-worthy!

P.S. Vayl and body glitter lotion accident? LMAO

  62. Eimear Says:

okay, after thinking about it i have to agree that letting vayl somehow be covered in body glitter would have me literaly on the floor laffin my bloody ass off, even writing about the possibility has me laughin. seriously, Jen- you have write something about it it would make me sooo happy :) :)

  63. jrardin Says:

It’d be a great inside joke for everybody who visits the site, wouldn’t it? I’ll seriously consider it.

  64. Beccy Says:

I actually thank the book Twilight because when i bought it from Amazon ages ago, it said other books you might like and it came up with “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” i bought it and became hooked on the Jaz Parks series!!
I even dyed my brown hair to red!

  65. Beccy Says:

Ohh i have another quick comment!

I loved twilight at first and i like the movie (it’s not really that bad) but i dont like the fangirl hype? If that makes sense? I didnt see Twilight in the cinema because i knew that whenever Robert-(cant remember his last name)came on screen the fangirls would scream and that would really annoy me and i might of “accidently” chucked my popcorn on them, but i love the books and i like the charcters and the chemistry stuff but why so much hype over the film! Its like wtf??

Im done now =] PS Vayl with glitter i’m okay with it…..only if he has his top off? xx

  66. Nicole Says:

Hmm, well i’d have to agree with LaurenK. Twilight isn’t all that to me. I kept getting acid indigestion when I read the books–people doing stupid things does that to me (You know, like in the horror movies with the ominous music and the blonde bimbo walks towards the dark door thats got blood leaking from underneath and everyone is screaming for her to stop and go the other way…yeah).

Hmm, as for what Vamp movies are worth watching–everyone should see Dracula 2000 (already mentioned) it has some great cinematic effects and it really has a unique take on the legend of Dracula. Blacula is also an excellent film. It’s ignored a lot these days, and despite my not being, well, alive when it was made, i love it, even if it was a blaxploitation film. Ultraviolet is also an excellent vamp film.

In regards to television. Most people write off some really great concepts simply because they’re cheesy. Sometimes the cheese makes the show. So i’m going to take everyone back to the 90′s when the vamp detective was really succesful–no, not Angel–i’m talking Forever Knight. It’s a show that you just can’t hate. Especially the main character’s sire–who doesn’t love the Nightcrawler. Hmm, another old tv show would have to be…Kindred: The Embrace–Julian Luna is pretty darn handsome. Hehe.

Bookwise there is actually a pretty oddball series i would reccomend by Jeri Smith-Ready focused on Vampire DJ’s. Wicked Game is the first novel.

And in regards to the inside joke about a sparkly Vayl…well i just had the mother of all hysterical daydreams—what if Cole read the Twilight series and decided to make a few ‘adjustments’ to Vayl while he was dead for the day…could Cole run fast enough to not get killed by a vengeful Vayl…would Jaz be able to stop the murder or would she be too busy laughing her ass off. And most importantly…where the hell did Cold get sparkly body lotion and or glitter glue on such short notice!

Hehe. Hope that entertains some folk. Now i’m off to daydream some more. TaTa.
